"...We must remember, in short, that printmaking is, and always has
been a democratic technology aimed at the private, demotic dissemination
of images. Because if no one wants the print - or if everyone is satisfied
to visit it in a public museum - there is no reason for the edition itself,
beyond the connoiseurship of guild/craft. The tiny, private production of
Hamilton Press, then, perpetuates the democratic aspiration of art for us all,
individually, according to our whims, into an age that is more comfortable with
collective identity confirmed in public spaces..."
